Huge GEZE Powerturn update – for better efficiency, accessibility and aesthetics
The Powerturn automatic swing door drive is a real powerhouse, and opens even large, heavy doors with a leaf weight of up to 600 kg reliably and safely. The Powerturn even offers the right solution for fire protection doors. At the same time, the swing door drive fits seamlessly into any design with its low height of only 7 cm. Sounds pretty impressive – but it gets even better! GEZE expert Yvonne Sommerer explains the advantages of the new Powerturn software update for building operators, architects and, above all, fabricators.

Our aim is always to offer the best possible products and services. That is why we are constantly looking for ways to improve and optimise everything we do. When it comes to software in particular, there are always technical innovations and new developments that can deliver improvements – and we want to take advantage of them.
What are the main advantages of the Powerturn update?
With the update to version 2.1, the GEZE Powerturn is now even more powerful and versatile. In addition, a fire door holder can now be operated without a manual trigger switch, eliminating the need for complex cable routing during assembly. The option of installing the Powerturn drive without a manual trigger switch is a major advance. This not only simplifies installation, but also ensures a clear aesthetic in the entrance area. And since no cables need to be laid, assembly work and costs are also reduced.

Are there any advantages in operation besides simplified assembly?

Yes, because dispensing with the manual trigger switch also reduces the likelihood of false alarms, which increases security and reduces the number of technician call-outs during operation. In addition, the red reset push button, which had to be pressed on the drive after a fire alarm or power failure, is no longer required. In future, a door can be reset conveniently and intuitively by opening it manually or by changing the operating mode, e.g. via the display programme switch. Depending on the door system and application, it may also be necessary to connect both a working and a fail-safe electric strike to the drive. This means that independent parameter setting of a second electric strike is now possible via the configurable output. This allows both escape and fire protection requirements to be met.
Are there any other advantages during operation?
The GEZE Powerturn is particularly impressive for operators in everyday use: it is virtually silent and intuitive in Smart Swing mode with Servo support, allowing doors to be opened in a way that is hardly distinguishable from an all-manual door. We have also improved the soft close control so that the doors now close even more quietly – ideal for noise-sensitive environments such as hotels or educational institutions.
The control also protects itself in the event of defective electric strikes by detecting and preventing short circuits. This results in fewer faults during operation, which reduces costs for operators.

What will change for fabricators after the update, compared to the previous installation?
This changes the wiring of the smoke switch.
The update to the factory settings means that fewer parameters need to be changed, enabling faster commissioning. A smoke switch must also be wired differently. What options do customers have for using the new Powerturn Update 2.1?
New Powerturn swing door drives are already being delivered with the latest software. Existing Powerturn systems from hardware revision F onwards can be upgraded to version 2.1, either by our GEZE Service team or a GEZE Service Partner.
